Dave's Dyno Page

After the 1999 racing season I came to the conclusion that in order to be able to build competitive racing engines I would have to get a dyno set up and opperational at our shop. We made a trip to the PRI show that December where I talked to the people at Land and Sea. They gave me lots of good information about their product and dynos in general. They worked very closely with me and made sure that I bought just the equipment I needed to do the testing that our engine program required.

From Land and Sea I bought the absorber, load control valve, electronics and computer software and we built everything else. Dick the technical sales rep at Land and Sea helped me alot getting everything going and I have to say that I am very pleased with the results.

We have the ability to test engines up to 800HP with a very high degree of accuracy and repeatability. The Dyno-Max software automaticly corrects for the atmospheric conditions during testing as well as recording hundreds of data samples per second on my computer.

The Land and Sea dyno uses a small computer which does all the analog to digital conversion and connects to my PC via a serial data cable. The testing is performed by programming the computer and telling it at what RPM to start and to stop recording data. Then all I have to do is run the engine at wide open throttle and control the load valve to make the engine "sweep" through the rpm band that I want to test, that's all there is too it and it's over in several seconds.

All of the "runs" are stored on the computer for future reference, graphing and additional data entry. The program is very complete and it allows lots of data that pertains to the engine combination to be stored and retrived easily.
