Q. What does the 333Mhz upgrade do?
A. The 333Mhz upgrade makes Audrey faster. Menus come up faster, web pages load quicker, applications load faster, she just becomes a lot "zippier".
Think of it the same way you would if you upgraded your home computer to a faster CPU, if you're used to running a 700Mhz CPU and upgrade to a 1.16Ghz CPU (the same percentage as our Audrey upgrade) you'll certainly notice a difference in the way it performs.
Q. Do you use heat sinks with your 333MHz upgrade?
A. Of course. We have since the first Audrey we sold.
Keeping with our commitment to the original aesthetics of Audrey and after a great deal of testing and research we found the perfect heat sink for Audrey. Our 333MHz upgrade doesn't require any modifications to the case of Audrey so your Audrey remains in it's gorgeous original condition.
Q. Are your Audreys refurbished?
A. No, our Audreys are brand new factory sealed units that come complete with all original factory new accessories.
Don't be fooled by others offering "refurb" Audreys. These are generally store returns from places like Best Buy. Do you really want something that someone else used and returned to the store? Then buy your Audrey from us and you're sure to get a brand new Audrey!
Q. Do you offer any kind of guarantee?
A. Yes, we offer a full replacement guarantee on everything we sell or any service we provide. So whether we upgrade your Audrey, or you purchase one from us, it will come with the same 90 day replacement guarantee.
Q. Why should I buy from you? A. There are a number of reasons to buy from us.
We have been upgrading Audreys since they were released by 3Com and have sold and upgraded hundreds of Audreys since we began offering our services.
Our Audreys are professionally upgraded by qualified technicians that have over 20 years of electronic repair experience.
We are the only site out there that offers a full 90 day replacement guarantee on Audrey AND everything we sell.
Our Audreys are factory new, not refurbished like others are selling. We have a full inventory of replacement parts and accessories. We offer unparalleled support, before, during and after the sale.Q. How do I check the clock speed of my CPU? A. If you're running our image, from the shelf menu run "Task Manager" that will bring up Neutrino Sin!, on the bottom of the screen you will see a number "xxxMhz" followed by "Geode", that is your CPU clock speed.
If you have an image other than ours, run or install and run Neutrino Sin and look in the same place as indicated above.
Q. I'm using a dial-up connection and my Audrey keeps trying to log on and ties up my phone line, why? A. What Audrey is doing when trying to log onto the net all the time is to
check your email. It's set up to check it every five minutes. This is
easily changed by editing a file....
First open the Editor program, on the shelf menu just tap "Editor", then you'll change the email frequency
from
every five minutes to whatever you'd like....
tap File>Open
select config>kcrontab
you'll see the email checking schedule like this...
maild;5;*;*;*;*
maild;10;*;*;*;*
etc.
This tells Audrey to check email 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc. after the
hour, every hour, or every five minutes. You can disable any or all of
those by either deleting the line or placing a "#" (without quotes) in
front of it. To change it to check only once a day, disable all the
maild
lines but one and have it read this...
maild;10;5;*;*;*
This will tell Audrey to check the mail 10 minutes after the 5th hour
every
day, or at 5:10am every day. When done making changes, be sure to tap
File>Save to save your changes. You may need to reboot for the changes
to
take effect.
Q. How do I backup my Audrey to a CF card? A. You'll need a 32MB Sandisk compact flash card. Other sizes in multiples of 32 will work, such as 64MB or 128MB, but sizes like 40MB will not be recognized correctly. Other brands may or may not work but Sandisk consistently work well.
First place the CF card into Audrey's CF slot with the front of the CF card facing to the rear of Audrey. From the Shelf menu tap the Terminal button to bring up a shell window. Type the following commands pressing the "Enter" button on the keyboard after each line...
devb-cf --You'll see a response giving the size of the CF card if it's inserted properly. cd /dev
cat fs0p0 fs0p1 > /dev/cf --Those are zeros, not "O's". Audrey will write the backup image to the CF card and when done, return to the # prompt after a minute or two. Remove the CF card when Audrey is done writing.
Q. How do I set up network file sharing on my Audrey? A. First you'll need to enable file sharing on your Host computer. For these instructions we'll assume you're using Windows XP with administrator privileges, and setting up three shared folders for Audrey to see. These folders will be share, mp3, and pics. From My Computer, open your C:\ drive and create three new folders, share, mp3, and pics. Right click on the new folders and click on Sharing and Security to share the folders on the network. From Audrey, open Editor from Shelf and tap >File>Open>kojak>windowshare.sh
Once open, you'll see three lines that look like this...
fs-cifs -a //HOST COMPUTER:IP ADDRESS:/pics Audrey audrey
Where "fs-cifs -a" is the command.
"HOST COMUTER" is the name of the computer you'll be connecting Audrey to.
"IP ADDRESS" is the IP address of your host computer.
"pics" is the name of the folder that is being shared on your host.
"Audrey" is the login name.
"audrey" is the password.
You'll replace HOST COMPUTER with the name of your host computer for all three of the lines. Then replace "IP ADDRESS" with the IP address of the host computer (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.0, but you'll need to know for sure) for all three lines.
Once those are edited, make sure that the file names (/mp3, /share /pics) are the same as on your XP machine. Remember that Linux is case sensitive so the file "MP3" is different from "mp3".
After editing the file and checking that everything matches, tap >File>Save to save the changes and then re-boot Audrey.
If the changes made were correct and sharing is set up properly on your XP machine, just tap Windows Share from Shelf, and you'll mount your files. To check that the folders mounted properly, tap File Explorer from Shelf, and you should see your XP folders share, mp3, and pics. If you do not see them, then you may have edited the windowshare.sh file incorrectly, or not set up sharing properly in XP. First recheck /kojak/windowshare.sh to make sure your changes are there and correct. If you want to automatically mount your folders at boot-up, you can alternately change your boot.sh file and at boot-up, Audrey will automatically mount your folders. Follow the instructions above, but replace the file windowshare.sh with boot.sh
(CAUTION: DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE UNLESS YOU HAVE A BACKUP IMAGE OF YOUR AUDREY. INCORRECTLY EDITING THIS FILE COULD MAKE AUDREY NOT BOOT CORRECTLY. ONLY EDIT THIS FILE IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!)
The lines to edit are on the very bottom of the boot.sh file.
Q. Can Audrey be used on a wireless network? A. Yes, just purchase our Wi-Fi upgrade. Alternately using an Audrey USB/Ethernet adapter and a Linksys WET11 network bridge, Audrey can be used wirelessly on any WI-FI (802.11b) network. There are other brands of network bridges that will also work to enable Audrey to be used wirelessly.
Q. Can I control my home automation X-10 devices from Audrey? A. Yes. Using Homeseer, Audrey can control all of your home automation X-10 devices with just a tap of the screen through Audrey's browser.
